What is the Mushroom Festival?

Don’t miss our 30th annual fall celebration of mushrooms and the harvest season, co-presented by Mount Pisgah Arboretum, the Cascade Mycological Society and Lane Community College.  This event is the largest mushroom display on the West Coast! Hundreds of locally-collected wild fungi will be on display, with experts on hand to answer questions and identify any specimens that visitors bring in.

You may have never-before-seen mushrooms in your backyard! Last year two festivalgoers brought in two undiscovered species of mushroom! Bring yours in to find out!

You don’t have to be a nature-nut to have a great time: the festival also features a huge plant sale, a scarecrow contest, children’s activities, hayrides, craft vendors, incredible mushroom-inspired food, fresh apple cider, wine, great music by popular local bands, and much more.

Music Line-up

Bring your dancing shoes to the Mushroom Festival, because we’ve got a day full of great music to enjoy!

10:00 – Tara Stoneceipher
Composed of Tara Stonecipher on guitar/lead vocals and Gregg Vollstedt on electric guitar/vocals, this Eugene-based Band plays a mix of Americana/folk/alternative country tunes. Their piercing lyrics and soulful rhythms will mesmerize you at the noon hour at the festival.

11:00 – Tyler Fortier
Calling Eugene home,  singer/songwriter, Tyler Fortier has been releasing CD’s since 2006.  With two new CD’s already released this year, Fear of the Unknown and And They Rode Like Wildfire Snaking Through The Hills ‘ Neath the Scarlet Sun and another CD, Bang on Time, set to be released this month, Fortier seems to have quite a bit to say.  With material ranging from 19th century narrative songs about the old west, to the end of the world to flooded fields.

Noon – Jazz du Jour
Jazz for the modern age, Jazz Du Jour is a hip jazz ensemble that plays for the crowd. They write, “It is very important for us to make a connection with our audience and to not play an abstract selection of obscure songs.” Their modern appeal and exceptional talent make them a must see at this year’s festival!

1:00 – Voodoun Moi
A favorite of the staff of the Arboretum, Voodoun Moi is back for another performance at the Arboretum. They describe themselves as ‘funky, jazzy and new’ on their website. Their vocals are led by 19 year old Genevieve Bellemare, who will knock your socks off.

2:00 – Cynthia Valentine & Concrete Loveseat
This 6 piece jazz ensemble, formed two and half years ago during a snowed-in December day over Kahlua and coffee when guitarist Marty Chilla (The Sugar Beets) noodling around on the guitar started playing “Stardust” and Cynthia Valentine opened her mouth to sing. Cynthia’s sweet haunting voice will make this a performance you do not want to miss.

3:00 – Satori Bob
Satori Bob has evolved over many years, centered on the work and vision of singer/guitarist/composer John Baumann. John’s songwriting, musicianship and presence has earned him loyal fans across the US. The interplay between longtime accompanist Devin Newman on banjo, noted bassist Jeff Langston, and the highly creative Russ Wilbanks on guitars, round out this fast-rising Eugene, Oregon based acoustic/electric ensemble.

4:00 – Samba Ja
Samba Ja specializes in playing wild, funky, infectious and incredibly danceable street music from all over Brazil and the Americas, from the sounds of Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro to original adaptations of old-school hip hop. They describe themselves as diverse, playful and innovative. We describe them as a ton of fun.

Volunteering

Mount Pisgah Arboretum’s annual Mushroom Festival is made possible by more than 250 wonderful volunteers who pitch in their time to make this event so wonderful. Do you have a couple hours to share? Contact Rainee at mtpisgah@efn.org or (541) 747-3817 if you would like to help prepare and set up for the event, put up posters around town, take a shift at a booth during the festival day, help pack things up after the event is over, or any number of other ways to help out.

Plant Sale

Did you know that our Plant Sale booth is fueled entirely by donations? Swing by the Arboretum on Saturday, October 30 to drop off native plants, perennials, houseplants, flowering plants, or any other potted-up greenery that is looking for a home–as long as it’s not an invasive species*, of course. The Mushroom Festival is not only a great event for educating the community about the wonders of the outdoors, but it’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for Mount Pisgah Arboretum. We couldn’t keep our trail maintenance, environmental education, and habitat restoration programs going without your help!

*Link to list of invasive species for our region.

Bake Sale

The Bake Sale at the Mushroom Festival is a home-grown fundraiser for Mount Pisgah Arboretum. Bring a batch of cookies, brownies, cake, or pie when you come to the festival, and drop it off at the Bake Sale Booth.  All proceeds go right back to supporting the Arboretum. Why not host a baking party with your friends? The only requirement is that we can’t accept any items that need refrigeration: that means no custards, whipped cream, or meringue.
